About
The PETGA Initiative was founded by Damilola Arinde and Valerie Ehimhen. It stands for Promoting Engineering and Technology for Girls in Africa. The problem Damilola and Valerie are all too familiar with, is the lack of Engineering and Technology exposure to young girls in Africa. This lack of exposure leads to disproportional gender inequality in the Engineering and Technology workforce, which stems from disinterest. This is a huge problem in Africa especially for the girl child, as society has swayed them away from these fields largely dominated by men.
Our solution is to expose young girls to Technology and Engineering concepts, classes, courses, and role models, showing them that it is a doable, interesting and viable field they can pursue as their careers. We intend to do this by providing both digital and in-person lessons to public schools at no cost to the school, or to the girl child.
We will begin in our home Country of Nigeria, and intend to grow to other countries in Africa.
Please help us succeed with this initiative by supporting our cause. Funding will be used to gain access to the public schools, provide course materials, provide computers and other learning aids, and purchase all the necessary resources needed to promote Engineering and Technology for the girl child.
We believe all women can embrace who they are,
can define their future, and can change the world.
Our Mission
To provide a holistic and immersive experience to the African girl child, piquing her interest in engineering and technology.
Our Vision
A world where women in the Technology and Engineering space is the norm.
